May is Museum Month/Mai, Mois des Musées is an annual program run by the Ontario Museum Association celebrating the contributions of Ontario’s over 700 museums, 37,000 volunteers and 11,000 workers. It coincides with International Museum Day, on May 18th, organized by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) to showcase the impact that museums have on their communities.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of May is Museum Month, providing a meaningful opportunity to remind MPPs, communities, and stakeholders that museums matter. To celebrate, we’ve chosen the theme Discover Ontario’s Museums and encourage you to explore and develop it in ways that best reflect your site and organization. This is a flexible campaign—be creative and engage your community in ways that resonate most with them. Whether highlighting museums as vital sites of community or emphasizing their broader impact, we invite you to turn attention toward the important role museums play in the cultural, economic and social life of Ontario.
