The Niagara Falls Public Library is seeking a Part-time Local History Education and Programming Associate to assist in providing an outstanding library experience for customers and deliver services to meet the Library’s programming and local history needs.

 

The Local History Education & Programming Associate will assist in developing, overseeing, and delivering educational content for public-facing programs, digital content and displays with a focus on utilizing the existing Local History Collection. They will also assist in the development and maintenance of community partnerships with heritage organizations, schools, post-secondary institutions and other organizations.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Researches and prepares age-appropriate educational materials for in-person and remote public programming, digital content creation (e.g. digital storytelling, podcasts, virtual exhibits), talks and in-person displays
  • Leads public programming for the Local History department, collaborating with other Library departments as needed 
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of special event days (e.g. Library anniversaries, Archives Awareness Week)
  • Provides reference services in-person, by email, and phone.
  • Data entry, editing, and administrative support as assigned.
  • Identifies problems and resolves them when possible or refers to the appropriate person.
  • Assists with merchandising assigned materials through various formats.
  • Assists with indexing, scanning documents and photos into our electronic database, and managing the physical storage of materials.
  • Processes and creates finding aids for Local History materials as needed.
  • Weeds collections as assigned.
  • Ability to lift 40lbs
  • Performs conservation measures including removal of staples, paper clips, rubber bands, paper repair and preventative storage as needed.
  • Participates in and contributes towards library committees, meetings, and events.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of promotional initiatives, including programming, fundraising campaigns, and outreach.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations including schools, museums, historical societies, galleries and other organizations.
  • Prepares and receives deeds of gift.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Stays abreast of Library communications. 
  • Prepares statistics and reports as required. 
  • Recommends improvements to services and procedures to better serve customers.
  • Shares accountability for ensuring a safe and respectful workplace.
  • Provides administrative support for assigned areas. 
  • Identifies and resolves service problems, and reports those requiring further resolution.
  • Provides back-up public services as required. 
  • Assists with specific branch projects. 
  • Reports problems with physical plant and equipment. 
  • Other duties consistent with job responsibilities.

 

Skills, Knowledge, Training:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field of study (Library Technician, Recreation and Leisure, Museum Studies) 
  • Experience working in a library, museum, archives or gallery preferred
  • Valid G-class license
  • Familiarity with a variety of archival material including textual and photographic materials
  • Demonstrated familiarity with current technology. 
  • Familiarity with fundraising initiatives is an asset.

Position Type:

Permanent, Part-time

 

Wage:

$25.73 – $30.12 per hour

 

Work Hours:

17 hours per week (includes days, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays).

 

Start Date:

 July 2025
