The Ontario Museum Association (OMA) is seeking a cultural heritage emerging professional with superior customer service and organizational skills to support the delivery of OMA-led professional development and learning programs, events, and activities in the role of Professional Development Assistant.
The successful candidate will work as part of the OMA team, engage with a variety of PD instructors, facilitators and program registrants and gain experience in within the cultural heritage and non-profit sector, and will meet the following eligibility criteria:
Essential:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in museum studies, arts and cultural heritage administration
or related program - 2+ years experience working in the cultural heritage sector
- Proficiency in MS 365 (outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, Sharepoint, etc)
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating learning activities and events for public audiences
- Well-organized with ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong research and analysis skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work as part of a project team
- Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure consistency in messaging.
Desirables
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) – e.g Moodle
- Post-Secondary Teaching experience
- Bilingualism (French) and/or Indigenous Language(s) knowledge/ability
- Familiarity with the pedagogy of teaching and learning principles in adult education
The Professional Development Assistant position at the Ontario Museum Association is a full-time (35 hours per week at $21/hour) for a 6-month contract, starting Monday, September 8th, 2025, and ending Friday, March 20th, 2026. This is a hybrid role, requiring at least two days in-office per week in our downtown Toronto location. Note: Priority will be given to students who have not previously participated in the YCW-BCH employment program.
The Professional Development Assistant will:
- Support delivery of Certificate in Museum Studies and Digital Skills 2025-2026 course calendar including:
- Updating learning management system, course study guides, and other CMS materials
- Provide support to Course Directors in updating their course content and ensuring correct materials are available to registrants
- Supporting synchronous learning activities including CMS and Digital Skills sessions and OMA workshops and webinars.
- Supporting Course Director training and feedback activities
- Supporting CMS and Digital Skills participant course evaluation activities.
- Communicating with and responding to course participants inquiries
- Support planning, delivery, and evaluation of OMA learning events and contribute to the planning of the 2026-2027 professional development calendar.
- Support the presentation and public communications of the 2025 OMA Awards of Excellence
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and collaborate with other OMA staff to develop resource and program schedules.
- Other Administrative tasks as needed.
