The Great Lakes Museum (GLM) is seeking dynamic and community-minded individuals to join our Board of Directors and Standing Committees. The Board and Committees are a vital part of the Great Lakes Museum and play an important role in helping our staff and volunteers build on our solid 50-year history to create a sustainable and dynamic museum that will be enjoyed by all for decades to come.
Responsibilities of Board Directors
GLM’s Board of Directors is a volunteer board. Board members are expected to:
- Attend monthly Board meetings (~90 mins) in-person or via Zoom
- Sit on at least one sub committee (Governance and Planning, Community Engagement and Advancement, Finance, Nominations, Board Development and Human Resources, and Investment)
- Be a champion for the Museum locally and beyond
- Assist the Museum in developing and achieving its’ mission, vision and strategic priorities
- Serve a three-year term
Committee members are expected to:
- Attend Committee meetings (generally 6-8 per calendar year) set by the chair
- Fulfill the terms of reference for the committee
Ideal candidates will help develop and implement strategies that will generate revenue, attract and engage visitors, expand our reach and impact, ensure the financial health of the Museum, and ensure the integrity of the Museum and its artifacts.
At this time, we welcome all submissions with a particular interest in attracting individuals with expertise and experience in the following areas: museum management; curatorial and collections; ship building and maintenance; community engagement and advancement; and legal.
