The Ontario Museum Association (OMA) is seeking a bilingual, marketing, communications and/or advertising post-secondary student to support overall public relations, digital communications and marketing activities in the role of Communications Assistant.
The successful candidate will work as part of the OMA team, engage with a variety of stakeholders, and gain experience in professional communications within the cultural heritage and non-profit sector, and will meet the following eligibility criteria:
Essential:
- Currently enrolled in a marketing, communication, advertising, or public relations post-secondary program.
- Well-organized with ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Strong French-language skills.
- Experience with social media management and content creation.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work as part of a project team
- Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure consistency in messaging.
- Knowledge of marketing best practices and trends, including analytics and SEO.
- Understanding of digital marketing channels and technologies, including social media, email, websites, and search engine marketing.
- Experience with content management systems and platforms – Including but not limited to: Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Buffer, Mailchimp (etc.)
- Experience with MS 365 (Outlook, MS Word, Excel, Teams, Sharepoint, etc)
- Eligible to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or have refugee status in Canada)
- Are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment
Desirables
- Experience working in cultural heritage
- Strong interest in or experience of graphic design
- familiarity with Client Relationship Management (CRM) software
The Communications Assistant position at the Ontario Museum Association is a full-time (35 hours per week at $18/hour) for a 16-week contract, starting Monday, June 2nd 2025 and ending Friday, September 19th, 2025. This is a hybrid role, requiring at least two days in-office per week in our downtown Toronto location. Note: Priority will be given to students who have not previously participated in the YCW-BOL employment program.
The Communications Assistant will:
- Help create a variety of compelling content in both French and English for the OMA’s website, social media channels, and other communication platforms to drive engagement with target audiences
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of communication tactics through marketing analytics and SEO
- Write and edit press releases, articles, and other communications materials
- Attend weekly meetings with OMA staff team to discuss campaigns, ideas and overall priorities.
- Ensure that all communications align with OMA brand, messaging and strategic priorities.
- Assist with planning and executing events such as media events and launches.
This position is funded by the Young Canada Works in Both Official Langauges program. You may be eligible if you:
- are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
- are legally entitled to work in Canada;
- will be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
- will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) work assignment;
- have been a high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment;
- intend to return to studies during or after the YCW work assignment; and
- have a working knowledge of both English and French.
