CURATORIAL ASSISTANT INTERN (35 hours/week)
$18.70/hr
Wage: $18.70/hr
Duration: Monday, May 5, 2025 to Friday, October 24, 2025 (6 months)
Billy Bishop Museum is a non-profit organization committed to preserving local
history, including the childhood home of Victoria Cross recipient William Avery
“Billy” Bishop. The Museum seeks to engage our community by connecting local
stories to the Canadian war experience and broader currents of global history.
The Curatorial Assistant Intern will assist the Curator and the Artifacts and
Exhibitions Committee in the creation and installation of a new exhibition on
Veterans from the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. The Intern will also assist with the
creation of educational programming supporting the exhibition.
The successful candidates will have completed a post-secondary degree in History,
Indigenous or Cultural Studies, Library Sciences, Museum Studies or Education;
directly related experience or lived knowledge will be an asset.
Job Description:
1. Assist in the creation of an exhibition on Veterans from the Chippewas of
Nawash Unceded First Nation and the Saugeen First Nation (collectively known as
the Saugeen Ojibway Nation).
2. Conduct interviews with Veterans, as well as Elders and Knowledge Keepers on
the lives of Veterans before, during, and after their service.
3. Collaborate with partner organizations on educational activities and events.
4. To assist in the registration and securing of old and new artefacts.
5. To assist staff with public requests and research for the Museum.
6. To professionally represent the Museum at events and with museum-focused
groups.
7. To assist in the on-going inventory project of the Museum’s permanent
collection.
8. Other duties as required
Qualifications:
1. Successfully completed a postsecondary degree in History, Indigenous or
Cultural, Museum Studies, Library Sciences or related studies.
2. Good communication, research and organizational skills and independent
worker.
3. Good data entry skills.
4. Proficient the Microsoft Office Suite.
5. Use of PastPerfect or other database programs is necessary
This position is funded under the Young Canada Works at Building Careers in
Heritage internship program. An individual may be eligible for an internship if
they:
• are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada
(non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident
status are not eligible);
• are legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
• are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and
• are a college or university graduate (certificate, bachelor’s, master’s or
doctorate).
Note: Priority will be given to graduates that have not previously participated in
YCW internship programs and that are unemployed or underemployed.
