The Ontario Museum Association (OMA) is partnering with Odgers Berndtson in its search for an exceptional Executive Director. As the leading professional organization for Ontario’s museum sector, the OMA strengthens capacity, facilitates excellence, and advocates for the importance of truth and reconciliation, justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility for museums/ cultural centres in society.
Job Summary:
The Executive Director will lead the OMA in advancing its mission, vision, and effectiveness. This senior leadership role requires strategic planning, strong business acumen, political acuity and collaborative leadership skills to drive growth, innovation, and inclusivity. The Executive Director will advance the OMA’s mission, vision, and effectiveness, overseeing core business operations, finance, administration, and human resources. They will present a unified voice for the sector, fostering partnerships and collaborations, and enhance membership engagement, inclusivity, and equity. The successful candidate will lead strategic planning, policy development, and program implementation, building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, including volunteers, government, funders, and partners.
Requirements, Skills & Assets:
The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary degree in Museum Studies, Arts Administration, Business, or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience, preferably in the non-profit sector. They will have strong strategic planning, finance, and operations management skills, excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. The successful candidate will be comfortable taking calculated risks, and leading organizational change. High emotional intelligence and empathy, with a deep understanding of the OMA’s members, stakeholders and the broader community.
