About the job

Reporting to the Director, the Exhibition & Collections Curator is responsible for collection management and exhibition design and development at the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre (BCM&CC). The Exhibition & Collections Curator has overall responsibility for the BCM&CC’s permanent collections and curates permanent, temporary and incoming exhibitions and displays. This role assists in the development and ongoing review of relevant policies including collection management, interpretation, research, and exhibition standards. The Exhibition & Collections Curator creates professional, compelling exhibitions that foster understanding of local history and promote Bruce County as a tourism destination.

 

Requirements

  • Degree in History or related Museum Studies (ex. Art History, Archaeology, Anthropology) 
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in Collections Management, Exhibition Curatorial and Design in a museum setting 
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with donors, artists, museum professionals, volunteers, community partners and the public 
  • Understanding of exhibit design requirements in industry standard environment 
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to organize work of a multidisciplinary group of technical and professional staff both in-house and external 
  • Superior organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
  • Well-developed project management skills including the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently 
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills  
  • Sounds judgement and ability to handle matters of a confidential nature 
  • Demonstrate the ability to successfully motivate and supervise staff, helping to engender a strong sense of team spirit  
  • Proven experience in budget development, management and reporting  
  • Comfortable leading and making decisions to achieve desired results 
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of interactive exhibition components 
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Freehand and Quark Express
