SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The CAFM Exhibition Projects Manager administers the development and implementation of exhibitions (permanent, travelling, temporary and digital), other cultural products and directional signage and display projects, working with various multidisciplinary teams.

The Manager plans, organizes and directs all activities related to exhibition projects to deliver an optimal visitor experience by creating high-quality exhibitions and keeping the existing exhibition portfolio up to date. The standard weekly hours are: SWW 37.50 Hrs (5 days consecutive Mon. – Fri.)

EDUCATION:

  • Post-secondary education in administration, project management, human sciences or museum studies;
  • OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Project management certification (e.g. PMP) considered an asset.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience supervising projects with multi year budgets in excess of 1 million dollars;
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the following areas:
  • simultaneous management of several physical and digital exhibition projects or other cultural products;
  • management of multi disciplinary project teams responsible for the development of museum exhibitions and other cultural products;
  • project management and project management tools;
  • Experience in preparing requests for proposals, and negotiating and managing contracts;
  • Experience in preparing and presenting reports, documents and projects.

KNOWLEDGE :

  • In-depth knowledge of exhibition development, interpretation and evaluation practices, techniques and methods;
  • In-depth knowledge of the development of project charters, project briefs, risk matrices, work plans, budget estimates and schedules;
  • Knowledge of contracting and purchasing policies and procedures;
  • Working knowledge of exhibit design and presentation techniques, graphic production, text preparation, design and fabrication methods and systems, development of interactive elements, and technical drawing practices
  • (ability to read blueprints, including computer assisted drawings);
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of the development, management and design of digital media (such as augmented or virtual reality and related applications);
  • Knowledge of team-building and conflict resolution techniques;
  • Knowledge of Ingenium’s mandate, programs and services in general, and the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum in particular;
  • General knowledge of museum principles, theories and concepts;
  • Knowledge of museum institutions and organizations in Canada and abroad.

  • Ability to detect non-verbal cues in order to understand unspoken messages that may be important to the well-being of a team or project.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in both official languages.
