The Museum of Ontario Archaeology is seeking a Museum Educator for the summer season. Anticipated start date is June 9 through to August 31, 2025. This position is 35 hrs/week, $17.20/hr. This position is contingent on the successful funding through the Canada Summer Jobs program and candidates must meet the eligibility requirements outline below.
The Museum Educator’s primary responsibility will include assisting the Public & Education Programmer with delivering interactive summer programming and guided tours to museum visitors, conduct public archaeology workshops and activities, update school programming, and assist with special event planning and delivery.
The MOA’s Interpretive Plan encourages the museum to seek a diversity of voices for interpretation, and we will strongly encourage First Nations, Inuit, and Métis and students from other underrepresented groups to apply.
Other Work Tasks and Responsibilities will include:
• Assisting in the development and delivery of interactive public programming for groups and drop-in visitors,
• Assisting in delivering outreach programming with the community both in-person and virtually,
• Update school programming, along with Ontario curriculum connections,
• Assist with planning and delivery of special events such as Hands on Heritage Day and summer programming workshops.
In addition, the idea candidate will have the following skills:
• Experience working with children (in a classroom or camp setting would be an asset),
• A positive attitude and strong work ethic,
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills,
• Experience with public speaking or delivering educational programs would be an asset,
• Creative thinker, who thinks outside the box,
• Experience in social media marketing,
• A keen interest and understanding of Canadian/Ontario archaeological heritage,
• The ability to work independently and in a team environment,
• First Aid training certificate (preferred but not required),
• Proficient in MS office suite,
• Preference will be given to applicants who have completed at least some post-secondary education.
The successful candidate must meet the criteria of the Canada Summer Jobs program. An ideal candidate will have a background in Anthropology, Public History, Education, Museum Studies, First Nations studies, or similar University program, and possess both a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Prior work or volunteer experience at a museum or historic site would be an asset.
