Job Description

The Public and Education Program Coordinator (“Programmer”) is a key member of the Museum of Ontario Archaeology (MOA) team, responsible for creating engaging public and educational programs that translate Ontario’s cultural and environmental history. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, collaborative, and creative, with strong communication skills for developing programs that inspire curiosity across various formats, including tours, school field trips, camps, public events, workshops, hands-on activities, and digital engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver public and educational programs for diverse age groups that communicate the archaeological and environmental heritage of Southwestern Ontario.
  • Design and evaluate curriculum-aligned programs for K-12, camps, workshops, and special events.
  • Coordinate outreach and remote programs to expand the museum’s reach.
  • Create exhibit programming and associated learning materials.
  • Develop thematic tours that explore various aspects of Ontario’s heritage.
  • Contribute to the museum’s communications by developing content for print and digital formats.
  • Engage with visitors through feedback and program evaluations to ensure relevance.
  • Build community partnerships with schools, heritage organizations, and other groups.

Leadership and Administration

  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and supervision of temporary staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and industry regulations.
  • Assist with grant writing and implementation.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Education, Museum Studies, Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, Public History, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience in designing educational programs, working with children, and supervising staff.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario’s cultural history, including Indigenous heritage and DEI principles.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Ontario College of Teachers certification, First Aid certification, clean criminal record and vulnerable sector check, valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license, and access to a vehicle.

Start Date: October 15, 2024

Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. Flexibility for early morning, evening and weekend hours is required for events and programming.

Salary: $54,600 per year (eligible for employee benefits after three months of service)
