The Canadian Automotive Museum seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic Visitor Services Assistant for the summer season. This position focuses on delivering high-quality visitor experiences, engaging audiences through social media, and assisting with museum operations. The selected candidate will gain hands-on experience leading tours and programs in both official languages and will support the cataloguing and digitization of the museum’s advertising collection during quieter periods.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Greet and assist visitors, responding to inquiries in English and, if possible, in French.
- Provide engaging daily tours of the museum gallery.
- Encourage visitor feedback and promote positive online reviews.
- Support front-desk operations, including ticket sales, visitor orientation, and gift shop transactions.
- Manage and update museum events, photos, and visitor information on the official website and social media channels.
- Assist in organizing museum events, including the annual Members’ Park & Picnic fundraiser event in June.
- Support museum maintenance by performing minor cleaning tasks such as dusting, sweeping, sanitizing, and restocking supplies.
- Assist with cataloguing and digitizing archival documents.
- Participate in additional museum projects as needed.
A student may be eligible for employment if they:
- are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);
- are legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);
- are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and
- are a high school, college, CEGEP or university student.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal, public speaking, and communication skills.
- Preference given to candidates studying museum studies, history, education, tourism, business, cultural studies, automotive engineering, or a related field.
- Experience working in a not-for-profit environment is an asset.
- French language skills are preferred.
- A passion for historic motorized vehicles is encouraged.
